Depict Evaluation

The task was to create a short, ninety second film through creativity, filming and pre-production work.  In our team, we discussed movie genres that we liked, the two most popular were horror and comedy, so we decide to mix the two together and created "Un-scary movie". We all liked the idea of "Scream" and "Scary Movie" so we decided to mix both to create our short film. The basic plot of the movie is that the protagonist gets a phone call from an unknown number, and when she answers it, she finds out she doesn't know who it is. She later goes on to get a pizza delivered to her by the mysterious guy, but she isn't fazed by it. We had to properly plan out exactly how we were going to set-up, shoot and edit the film as well as work out budgeting, complete risk assessments, get the actors to complete consent forms and get location consent forms. We had to plan out what days and times we were going to film and put it into our production schedule, and completed a minutes document which tracked what we were doing each day. We all worked on each of the documents, some of them we would complete together, and others we would complete ourselves to move along the process quicker, meaning we would have more time to shoot and edit. The majority of the finished work reflected the planning we had completing, for example we had made a story board of how our movie would have turned out and we followed it clearly and carefully. However, there are some things that didn't go exactly to plan, for example our budgeting sheet we had to adapt to lower the cost of props we were going to use, and we weren't able to follow the production schedule exactly as we thought we would be able to. The changes we made from our planning was when it came to filming, we had settled on a date that we would start, however, we had to change that because of numerous issues, as one member or our team couldn't make it, and we realized that we didn't have any lighting that we could use to film outside in the dark. The most successful parts of the project was the way that we used different angles when filming to give the film more effect. I think the most effective angle we used was the birds eye view angle, because it showed a different point of the room and the character and makes the character seem smaller, which creates a sense of weakness and fear and creates tension for the viewer. Another successful aspect of the project was the sound effects that we filmed. A lot of the sound effects that we filmed ourselves were filmed at the same time as the actual scene, which made it seem a lot more natural and we were able to align the words to the scene so that they were in sync without them being too slow or too fast. If we were to undertake this task again, what I would do differently is not rush straight into filming or try to do too much in one go and I feel like if we had set aside more days to film then we would be able to focus more carefully on perfecting each. Another thing I would change if I were to undertake this task again would be to try and create more of our own sound effects inside of finding them online. Despite using our own sound effects for speech, door slamming and footsteps I would like to experiment with different sounds that we could create using different items and methods. The part that I enjoyed most about our project was editing it and watching it come together when we put all the clips together and perfected it to the bets of our abilities and it was fun to work with my group and get different ideas and sounds when creating our final film.
